Alien Infection

An arm wound VFX project that I use to demonstrate tracking and compositing. I now have a 5-part tutorial series on how to create this shot. First, we'll learn how to track with Mocha AE with After Effects. Then, then we'll go over how to rotoscope with After Effects. With basic tracking and roto out of the way, we'll apply a gauze pad stain texture to our Mocha planar track. Throughout this process, we'll be manually fixing some tracking and roto issues. Finally, we'll be creating an alien infection from scratch with growing veins in After Effects. Use crushed fruit, plaster, concrete, and other non-traditional textures to create an interesting wound. Then, use CC Glass, displacement effects, and the Write-on effect to create and animate veins coming from the center of the wound. In the final part, we'll identify problem areas, needed technical fixes, and add some finishing touches with camera lens blur defocus and a match grain effect. In a supplemental video, we'll go over Maya PaintFX to create a 3D wound that can be integrated into 2D After Effects elements.
