Kowloon Alley

This is a revised version of a render that I created as a student. The scene was created in Maya and rendered with mental ray. Due to the size and complexity of the scene, importance sampling with irradiance particles was used instead of Global Illumination and Final Gather, which drastically improved render time. I was asked to write an article entitled "Creating Detailed Urban Scenes" for the March 2015 issue of 3DCreative, in which I discuss my process for creating the image. 3DCreative Issue 115, page 92-97.

This image was also awarded with a 3DTotal Excellence Award. The original piece, without much post-processing, was featured in Ceiga, Issue 14.
